Once someone said that you can judge a person by the way he treats his animals. By the way I've seen it, I would help an animal before I would help a human being. The only thing crueler than what I am will be describing in this letter is when someone buys the pup, which I'm calling Cassie, brings her home, falls in love with her, and then she dies.
What I'm talking about is not only a pet store or pet shop, but something bigger behind the cute face in the window. It's called a puppy mill. Imagine this. Hundreds of pups crying for their mothers, or at least the comfort of warm hands that have abused them so. As you stare into the conditions of the cages, you see defication and dripping urination through the wired cages. Bunches of matted fur- dogs, as you now can see- move about, wailing or simply to sick to move. Out back, cans full of dead bodies are full and ready to be burned or just left there. There is no grass and the temperature is dropping quickly, yet the dogs are not being taken care of unless their breed is very valuble.
The dogs outside have little or no wwater, and the little drops are murky and hazy. Their food is simply gone, not a trace, and many dogs lick wistfully at the bowls. During storms or hurricanes, the owners eliminate themselves from sight while they save themselves. Animals die every day, glad to be leaving the world that they knew, their world.
The animals are bred at very young ages, usually at their first heat. Their puppies are sent away on a journey with no water and little food, many of them dying. They are sent away before they are fully weaned, so the solid dog food does nothing for their malnourishment. They whine and whimper pitifully and cry for their protectors, which are none.
As they arrive at the pet store, they are overfed and cleaned. They've been shoved inside glass cages fit for a hamster. Kids come and shove their fingers inside the glass and poke them, torturing them. When someone who cares comes around and buys them for thier kid, they do not know that they face a horrible fate. Soon, their happy little family will face a heart breaking experience. Unknowingly, the pup which they have named Cassie will die within the next two months of a heart problem which is unfixable.
These puppy mills are not properly looked in to. There are many different ways that we can save these animals;; we could make selling pups in pet stores illegal, unless we know for sure that they are from a proper breeder with the right ages and care. We could also put an investigation unto each pet store or shop that sells puppies. There are other ways which I don't want to waste paper for anymore.
So please, at least take this into consideration and let these pups have a special place in your heart. With the combined efforts of rescue groups and the government, the USA could be a lot prouder than it already is. Join the fight and sign this petition. Send it to your local mayor or governer, but make sure that you've got plenty of signatures! Use your full legal name, e-mail or phone number, and adress. Don't post that information on the internet though!
